Don't Skip Your Dental Exam | dentist kalaheo hi

A beautiful smile can open a lot of doors in business and social situations because when you look good, you feel good about yourself, and your confidence shows. But when your teeth are not healthy, you may feel so self-conscious that you don’t want to smile at all.

You Can Enjoy a Healthier Smile

It’s not necessary to live day to day feeling uncomfortable with your appearance. More importantly, numerous studies have found that the health of your mouth can have a direct impact on your bodily health. If your oral health is good, your overall health is most likely good. Likewise, if you suffer from chronic dental problems, your overall health is probably not the best either.

Brushing and flossing are an essential part of keeping your smile healthy. But if you aren’t keeping up with twice-yearly visits to the dentist for cleanings and exams, you are missing a big part of the picture.

Dental Exams and Cleanings

There are two parts to a regular dental visit – the exam and the cleaning.

During the exam, your dental team will visually examine your teeth and gums and look for signs of decay or gum disease. We are cautious about taking x-rays, but if necessary, we use digital imaging that significantly minimizes your radiation exposure. Any changes will be noted on your chart. If work needs to be done, a treatment plan will be developed so you know what to expect.

Your dental cleaning involves the removal of plaque from the surfaces of your teeth and beneath the gums where bacteria can collect. The hygienist will measure the spaces between your teeth and gums to see if gum disease is present. If a gum infection is found, a treatment plan will be established to get it under control.
