January is filled with New Year's celebrations. We want you to enjoy your time with friends, family, and colleagues this year. But remember to take care of your teeth!

Of course, there are many indulgences after the holidays and into January. But some foods and drinks are better for your teeth than others. Certain foods can even be detrimental.

Let's explore the best and worst foods and drinks for your teeth.

Best Foods and Drinks for Your Teeth

Nuts

Nuts have magnesium and calcium; both are key to a healthy smile. So, nuts are an excellent option if you're going to crunch.

Strawberries

Strawberries can help remove plaque from the teeth and gums. They can also help minimize tooth stains. However, be careful of the tiny seeds getting lodged between your teeth.

Water

Water is the best hydration for your smile and overall wellness. It is definitely preferable to fruit punch and soda. Water can also help clear debris from the mouth.

Low Fat Dairy

If there's a cheese tray at the holiday party, go for it. Cheese is rich in calcium, which helps teeth and bones stay strong.

Veggies

Veggies are always the best choice for your teeth and your overall wellness.

Worst Foods and Drinks for Your Teeth

Candy

Whether chocolate or sticky candy, neither is good for your teeth. Chocolate can coat the teeth, and sticky candy can dislodge restorations. We recommend avoiding both. But if you do indulge, be sure to brush and floss.

Fruit Juice and Soft Drinks

Both are acidic and loaded with sugar. Sugar sticks to teeth, forming plaque and eroding the enamel, which leads to decay. We recommend sticking with water.
